Throughout the off season, as well as the various winter training programmes and winter nets, a number of our young cricketers have also benefitted from additional sessions designed to assist them as they transition to senior cricket.
Through the establishment of a Falkland Development Programme (FPP) the club has organised a number of indoor sessions aimed at realising our young people's cricketing potential as they move from the junior squads to the senior game.
Led by coaches Mark Otley and Kevin Smith, 11 Falklanders, who are now outside of the junior winter programmes, have been working extremely hard, focussing on strengthening their bodies, strengthening their technique and most importantly, strengthening their team ethic. 11 players started the programme, a united team that will graduate the programme.
The squad have benefited hugely from the hard work they have put in and are looking forward to starting the season strongly across all the cricket that Falkland CC offer.
In addition, six boys and six girls took part in a number of specialist fast bowling sessions, run by Mark Otley. The objective was to cover some fundamentals of fast bowling, with the aim of teaching the players good habits and techniques that would not only aid them in bowling faster, but also help them look after their bodies, to try and prevent injuries.
All the players taking part in the sessions were enthusiastic and a credit to the club. We hope they've gone away with skills and lessons that will help them have a great outdoor season whether they are currently representing junior teams or looking to play their first games of senior cricket.
Well done to all and thank you to all the coaches who made the sessions a success!
