In what would prove to be a ruthless display with both bat and ball by Falkland’s 3rd XI, a commanding performance moves them up to 3rd in the league and into contention for promotion.

Finally winning a toss this year, 3’s skipper James Bloodworth was quick to decide to bowl first, in overcast conditions. The absence of several usual 3’s pace bowlers meant Bloodworth had to redesign the attack, and his team rose to the challenge. Opening bowler Prakrit Bhagat set the tone, removing White Waltham’s potentially dangerous opener with just 10 on the board, and when wickets weren’t falling, Falkland’s young squad dug in with patience and determination, maintaining their fielding standards and restricting runs with great effect. George Hawkins (3-27-9) proved the most profitable bowler, but there were contributions throughout the whole attack, with all the bowlers being economical and giving very little away to the opposition in extras. White Waltham were all out for a well below par 146, and Falkland staged their batting reply.

When opener Charlie Mabbatt (23) was joined by number 3 batter Holly Rider (55), a 58 run partnership ensued, taking Falkland past the half way mark of runs required, and quickfire innings from Graham Beal (25) and Prakrit Bhagat (22) brought Falkland home with the loss of just 3 wickets and in only 30 overs.

A challenging game awaits next week, when Falkland host 2nd placed Yateley 1st XI at the Wilson Carlisle Ground, but with a great run of form behind them, our 3’s are full of self belief and ready for the battle.
