The Development Team travelled to Warfield with a few new faces on Saturday. Losing the toss and being asked to bowl, Falkland toiled away for the first 18 overs but with no success with Warfield reaching 100 for the loss of no wickets.
The introduction of Adam Bond on debut proved to be a turning point taking 2 wickets in succession just before drinks. Asser Malik then followed up with a further 2 wickets on his Saturday debut.
Warfield continued to build, but the introduction of legspin twins Henry Chapman (2-34) and Jack Rider (2-11) not only ensured wickets kept tumbling but the run rate also dried up leaving Warfield on 191-8 after their 40 overs.
In reply the Dev Team got off to a quick start taking advantage of the powerplay, with Oscar Fry and Henry Chapman (18) launching in to the opening attack. When Chapman fell Lottie Aird played her best innings yet for the Dev Team supporting Fry to put on a good 50 run partnership. With some hostile middle overs bowling on a tricky pitch the young Falkland side wobbled with wickets falling regularly at one end. At the other end Oscar Fry was in the form of his young life, and was smoking the bad balls out of Warfield whilst rotating the strike at ease. Despite falling 2 runs short of his first ever century to finish on a sublime 98, he put Falkland to within 20 runs required off the last 4 overs. Jack Rider held his nerve with a classy 16 not out to see the team home with 2 balls to spare in a great competitive game of cricket.
