Saturday 30th November was the Falkland U13 girls' last match of an eventful 2024, as they took on Old Basing in the Winter Indoor League. It has been a great year for the girls and they finished off the year in style as they won by the biggest margin in the league this year.
Old Basing won the toss and elected to field first. The Falkland girls have played three games so far, scoring 63, 64 and 64, so were looking to set their highest score. Izzy G and Amelia Q opened the batting beautifully, with both girls hitting big 6’s, running between the wickets better than they have all season. Both reached their retirement score, Izzy 26 and Amelia 27, inside the first six overs. This brought in Lucy M who was in great form hitting three 6’s , also reaching the retirement score in five overs on 28 runs.
Hope looked aggressive as she smashed the ball against the wall, but as she set off for a quick run the ball rebounded back towards the stumps and she was run out for 1. But, Old Basing were far from safe. Darcey came in and was striking the ball well. She too hit a six and got to her retirement score of 25 with the last ball of the match.
Falkland finished on an incredible 163 for 1 (99 more than their previous high score!)
Hope opened the bowling and was beating the bat regularly. Izzy B bowled the second over, again the batters were being beaten, but this time Izzy B hit the stumps with a great ball that came back into the batter. The next batter attempted a quick run which saw her run out by Amelia.
Darcey was next to bowl, she too clean bowled her opponent; the Falkland girls’ accuracy was brilliant. Captain Izzy was the next bowler, beating the batter every ball for a maiden over. Lucy M then stepped up and got a clean bowled with her first ball. There was one more run out as Darcey knocked the stumps down from distance.
It was then down to the last girl standing for Old Basing, she batted very well, seeing off Hope, Izzy B and Darcey, but she wasn’t able to get the ball away, meaning hardly any runs were being scored. Izzy G then stepped up and dismissed the batter, trapping her dead in front for an LBW.
Old Basing finished on 39 all out, meaning a huge 124 run victory for the Falkland girls.
Commenting on the final match of 2024, coach Ian Gibson said, "This has been a fantastic year for our Pink Army, I wanted to thank all the parents for all the support you show the girls during the matches, and thank you to all of the girls for their enthusiasm and hard work. I hope you all have a great Christmas, and I can’t wait to see you all in the New Year."
